Slot Car Tracks

Slot car tracks can either come when you purchase a race set with the miniature racing machines, or can be custom made to suit your preferences.

The former are usually made of plastic and come in different lengths, from eight to thirty feet. The number of lanes also vary, from two to six. There are also different designs available such a simple oval, a figure eight, or even one with a loop.

There are several professional builders of custom racecourses, but, if you are a do-it-yourself buff, you have the proper tools, and are familiar with the basics of carpentry, there is no reason why you cannot build your own. You may need, however, some guidance when constructing the embankments at the turns. There are recommended proper banking angles.

The slots that run the length of the racecourse hold either a tape or braid pick-up conductor. This provides a power source for the automobiles as they race along. Their low-voltage engines receive their power when they come into contact with the conductors.
